Day 2 Tokyo: Tsukiji Outer Market, Meiji Jingu Shrine, Imperial Palace, Senso-ji Temple
Today is our day to explore traditional Tokyo. After breakfast, your guide will take you to the Tsukiji Outer Market, where your taste buds will come alive and your mouth will water, making it a food lover’s paradise! Your guide will be happy to suggest local street foods, such as salmon sushi, grilled seafood, Tako Tamago (Octopus Eggs), Takoyaki, or Tamagoyaki.
Next, follow the guide to step into the Meiji Jingu Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji (1852-1912). Besides its architecture and religious significance, it also features a sacred wedding venue. We might see an uncommon Japanese wedding, with a solemn ceremony, a reverent atmosphere, and the couple in traditional attire - the bride in white and the groom in black. Then, we will visit the garden of the Imperial Palace to learn about the Emperor of Japan’s residence and take unforgettable photos in front of the famous Nijubashi Bridge.
After lunch, let’s head to the Asakusa area, Tokyo’s most popular tourist and business district. Follow your guide through the giant red lantern-draped Kaminarimon Gate, walk along Nakamise-dori Street, and browse the many small shops and souvenir stands on both sides of the street. Then arrive at Tokyo’s oldest temple, Senso-ji Temple, which is 1,400 years old. Admire the temple’s towering five-story pagoda, see the Kannon statue worshipped by locals, and draw an Omikuji fortune slip if you like. Finally, the guide will escort you back to your hotel.
